The Institute for Digital Fabrication at Ball State acts as a catalyst for interdisciplinary applied research and immersive learning opportunities in digital fabrication and serves as a conduit between students, design professionals, and the manufacturing sector. The Institute supports curricular components immersed in experimental and digitally-enhanced material and tool investigations with a rigorous examination of the craft behind digital designing + making. By engaging industry partners through a “digital exchange”, students apply skills in contemporary design and production techniques through immersive, team-based projects, solving real problems and managing a complex set of design constraints based in materiality, economy, ecology, culture, efficiency, and performance.
